At around 15:30 on Sunday the Emergency Services received several calls to say that a number of people swimming at Cala del Plomo in Nijar, Almeria, had been caught out by strong currents and could not reach the shore.
When the Emergency Services arrived on the scene, a man using a rope had managed to rescue nine people. One of those rescued had swallowed a lot of water and was eventually transferred to hospital by ambulance.
