A fire at 02:00 on Christmas Day morning destroyed a large area of vegetation and a nearby greenhouse at La Caleta beach in Maro.
Four Fire Brigade units were sent to the scene and the blaze was finally extinguished at around 08:00.
The isolated beach featured in every episode of the hit TV series Verano Azul and was where Pancho uttered the words, “Chanquete ha muerto” (Chanquete is dead).
The fire completely destroyed the sugar cane next to the beach and also burned a nearby greenhouse. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
