The Council has approved another motion requesting the Ministry of Culture of the Junta de Andalucia to delegate the responsibility for issuing building licences in Maro to the municipality of Nerja.
Once the Junta delegates such powers, Nerja Council itself would be able to grant building licences for the village of Maro, provided they do not affect monuments , archaeological sites or historic gardens, rather than having to seek approval from the Ministry.
The village of Maro forms part of a heavily protected area as far as building is concerned.
