The total number of foreclosures initiated in 2013 was down by 9.8% on the previous year, but it was still a staggering 82,860.
The decrease could, at least in part, be due to the changes in the law relating to affording more protection to mortgagors and the restructuring of debts.
The highest number of foreclosures were in Cataluña and Andalucia, each with 22% of the total, followed by Valencia with 14% and madrid with 10.3%.
