Thieves steal 3,000 metres of cable in Villatorres

Thieves have made off with 3,000 metres of copper wire from telephone wires, leaving around 500 residents in Villatorres. Jaén, without a connection. The local Health Centre has also been affected.

Copper wire and cable is very attractive to thieves but only fetches about €1.50 per metre as scrap, about half the normal market rate. However, it will cost the authorities €50,000 to repair the damage as well as inconveniencing local residents, some of whom rely on telecare, and causing problems for the Health Centre.

Also affected by this theft were the villages of Torrequebradilla, Vados de Torralba and Sotogordo.
