Two killed in boat fire on the island of Mallorca

A Dutch couple, aged 63 and 67 years, died when fire destroyed their sailing boat which was anchored off Portocolom in Felanitx on the island of Mallorca.

A team of firefighters went to the stricken vessel in a boat provided by the yacht club and upon arrival found the charred remains of the couple. The fire was extinguished using hoses attached to hydrants in the port.

The boat was towed to the port where it promptly sank. Divers checked the area to make sure no-one else had been involved in the incident.

Forensic experts are now trying to determine the cause of the fire.
