Technical fault causes flight delays throughout Spain

A technical fault with the Automatic Air Traffic Control System (SACTA) at Madrid airport has caused numerous delays to flights in many parts of the country today.

Delays of two hours were not uncommon as take-offs were halted and the time interval between landings was increased from two minutes to five minutes.

Less affected were areas controlled by Barcelona and Sevilla, although there was still the knock-on effect.
