Junta de Andalucia to pay off debts to universities

The Junta de Andalucia has announced that it now intends to pay off its €630 million debt to the universities in the region within two and a half years.

The Junta paid off €300 million of debt last year, although nearly half of this amount was as a result of funds received from the State. The debt reduction with the universities has not been on an even basis, varying from 10% to 50% depending upon the university involved.

In addition, the Junta de Andalucia apparently now has a plan to retain talented teachers and avoid or halt the exodus abroad.
