There were a total of 223 deaths on the roads of Spain during the summer months of July and August, the lowest figure since 1960 when such statistics were first collected.
In 1960 there were 279 deaths, although there were far fewer vehicles on the road. The number of deaths in 2013 was 233. There were also less injuries recorded this summer.
