Mango harvest begins in the Axarquia

The mango harvest is beginning in the Axarquia and this year a yield of between 20,000 and 25,000 tons is expected, a record.

The harvesting will take until the end of October to complete and one of the problems to be faced during this period is that of theft of the fruits, an annual occurrence which does not seem to diminish despite increased police surveillance and citizen cooperation.

Harvest 2010: 10,500 tons from 2,800 hectares of cultivated land
Harvest 2011: 8,000 tons from 2,800 hectares of cultivated land
Harvest 2012: 16,000 tons from 3,000 hectares of cultivated land
Harvest 2013: 7,000 tons from 3,100 hectares of cultivated land
