Algerian authorities locate missing migrant boat

The Algerian authorities have intercepted a small boat carrying 28 migrants which the Spanish Maritime Service had been trying to locate since Thursday.

Planes and boats were involved in the search for the migrants who were known to have left Morocco on Thursday and were heading for the coast of Almeria. The search had been concentrated in the Alborán sea in an area between Cabo de Gata and the Isla de Alborán. It was later extended to Cabo Sacratif.

Shipping in the area was also alerted to be on the lookout for the migrant boat. Eventually, the Moroccan Government confirmed that the Algerian authorities had located and intercepted the boat.
