Huelva strawberry producers question disproportionate price gap

Strawberry producers in Huelva are questioning what they see as a disproportionate gap between the price they receive from the distributors and the price charged to consumers.

For the early strawberries, currently being harvested, the producers believe they should be getting at least €3 per kilo, but say they are only receiving between €1.50 and €2.00 per kilo. The consumer, however, is having to pay €8.00 per kilo.

Following a poor season last year, the amount of land under cultivation of strawberries has declined from 7,000 to 6,500 hectares.

Of course, the price to the consumer should be reduced.
