Approval for Benamocarra PGOU

The Provincial Planning Commission has approved the new PGOU (General Plan) for Benamocarra, a document which took seven years to formulate. Included in the PGOU are plans for a new feria ground and a municipal theatre.

No holds barred in Party politics

The Mayor of Benamocarra, Abdeslam Lucena, has accused the PSOE mayoral candidate at the upcoming elections, José Antonio Díaz Labao, of charging copious amounts of whiskey to the Town Hall during his time as a Councillor, producing a bill from March 2000 as proof. Maybe he was just trying to scotch rumours.

Tourist office for Benamocarra

Benamocarra now has a Tourist Office, located in plaza el Calvario. The new facility was inaugurated by the Mayor, Abdeslam Lucena, accompaniied by Felipe Monje Sanchís, speaker at the recent Día de la Música, the Councillor for Culture, Juan Antonio González, the Councillor for Education, Isabel María Alba and the Councillor for Youth, María Leonor Muñiz.

Fire in Benamocarra

A fire on Tuesday afternoon at Finca del Lilo in Benamocarra caused extensive damage to two store houses, a truck, a boat, two cars and a motorhome as well as destroying accumulated piles of paper, cardboard and tyres. No-one was injured in the blaze and the fire was extinguished before it could cause any damage to adjoining properties.

In the hoofprints of the ‘bandaleros’

The Benamocarra Equestrian Association is organising the fifth ‘La Axarquía y sus bandoleros’ (Axarquia and its bandits) in which members travel on horseback along some of the routes used by the old bandits of the Málaga region.

Fiesta time in Benamocarra

Tomorrow, Thursday October 15th, sees the start of festivities in Benamocarra in celebration of the patron of the town, Santísimo Cristo de la Salud.

A load of rubbish

In June 2005, a resident in the La Villa area of Benamocarra returned from a trip to Switzerland to find her garden full of rubbish and complained to the Council.
