Repsol abandons oil exploration in the Canary Islands

Much to the relief and delight of the Canary Islands administration, Repsol has announced that it is terminating its oil and gas exploration in Canary Island waters, as reserves were found to be too small and of poor quality.

Storm fatality on Gran Canaria

The storms which swept through the Canary Islands, with winds reaching 100 kph throughout the islands, have claimed the life of a 53-year-old man on Gran Canaria.

Oil exploration project approved

After two years of deliberations and despite opposition from the government of the Canary Islands and environmental groups, the Ministry of Industry has granted permission to Repsol to carry out oil exploration inthe area between Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Morocco.

Missing helicopter located

The SAR helicopter that went down in the waters of the Canary Islands on March 19th 2014 has been found by a robot from the vessel ‘EDT Ares’ belonging to the company Phoenix International, specialists in deep sea rescues and recovery.

Preliminary trials for new ferry service

The new ferry ‘Volcán del Teide’, built by Naviera Armas and scheduled to begin service between Huelva and the Canary Islands in March 2011, is already in the port of Huelva for preliminary trials.
