Preliminary trials for new ferry service

The new ferry ‘Volcán del Teide’, built by Naviera Armas and scheduled to begin service between Huelva and the Canary Islands in March 2011, is already in the port of Huelva for preliminary trials.

The ferry, built in the shipyards of Santander, has 124 cabins, can carry 1,200 passengers and has a speed of 26 knots. It is akin to a cruise ship in many respects.

The ferry will make weekly journeys, carrying passengers and freight, as from March 2011 with a travelling time of 28 hours.

The service is already listed on their website (http://www.navieraarmas.com), although with scant details.
