Drowning woman rescued from the sea

The incident occurred at 3:30pm in the afternoon when an off duty police officer who happened to be on the beach at the time heard cries for help from a woman in the sea. Along with a lifeguard from Torremolinos, who was also off duty, they swam out to rescue her.

Members of the Salvamento Marítimo joined the rescue operation on a jet ski, and together with the police officer and lifeguard, pulled the woman to safety. The woman was found semi-conscious, was vomiting blood and showed signs of having swallowed water, but the specialist rescuers administered oxygen and amazingly the woman recovered. After being stabilised, the woman, who is 50 years old, was transferred to Axarquia Regional Hospital. The police officer, who is stationed at the Valencian police station in Mislata, was also on holiday with his family when the incident took place.
