The fourteen year old boy questioned in connection with the fatal shooting of his mother has made his first appearance in court and is now being detained in a juvenile centre in Almería.
During questioning, the boy initially claimed to have returned home shortly after leaving for school because he had heard a gunshot. He said he discovered the body of his mother and then ran to get his father who works at a nearby carpentry workshop. Later on, however, he confessed to killing his mother but said it had been an accident. The investigation continues.
The woman, aged 40 years, was buried yesterday and the mayor of Cortes de Baza has declared three days of mourning.
