NEW RULES FOR NOTES ON CARS IN BENALMÁDENA

You see little ‘For Sale’ notes on cars everywhere these days, but a large number are thought to belong to car dealers and Benalmádena Council, for one, is doing something about it.

The Council in Benalmádena has amended the Ordenanza Local de Convivencia Ciudadana in order to prevent car dealers from selling their vehicles on the streets. These vehicles take up valuable parking spaces in areas where parking is already difficult and at a premium. The practice is also deemed to be unfair competition, especially when it is thought that up to 80% of the offending vehicles are not even from the municipality.

The new ordinance requires anyone wishing to put a ‘For Sale’ or other advertising notice on their car to apply for a municipal license which will be valid for one week and must be prominently displayed on the vehicle in question. Violation of the ordinance will result in a €90 fine plus the costs involved in removing the vehicle.

The new amended ordinance also introduces new rules for caravans and motor homes. Such vehicles may now only be parked, when actually in use as a home, in areas designated by the Council. Any such vehicles stationary for more than 24 hours when in use by the owners will incur a fine.
