JUNTA AGREES TO FINANCE, IN FULL, THE PROPOSED NEW HEALTH CENTRE IN NERJA

More swift decisions, there must be an election in the offing. The Junta de Andalucía has agreed to assume full responsibility for the financing of a new health centre in Nerja.

The ruling PP Council in Nerja has always maintained that the funding of any health centre project should be the responsibility of the Junta de Andalucía but were forced into signing a 50%’50% funding agreement for the project back in 2003. However, despite this, the Council included funds in their upcoming budgets for the health centre project and were apparently quite ready to adhere to the agreement.

The opposition PSOE in Nerja has tabled a motion denouncing the 2003 agreement and requesting full funding of the project by the PSOE controlled Junta de Andalucía. The mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, has stated that the Council is prepared to support the PSOE motion, but only if it gets a new funding agreement in writing from the Junta. The mayor is hoping to meet with provincial Health Department delegate María Antigua Escalera to discuss the matter.

Meanwhile, the Junta de Andalucía has welcomed the PSOE proposal and has apparently agreed to fully fund the project. The mayor, however, still wants to meet with María Antigua Escalera to get the news ‘first hand’.

The Junta de Andalucía has criticised the 2003 agreement, saying that the Council should never have been forced into funding agreement. They also criticised the mayor of Nerja regarding the project, especially in relation to accounting for the €1.2 million in advance payments made by the Junta since the initial agreement in 2003. The Junta is now, naturally, asking for the return of the money.
