Vandals detained in El Palo

Six youths have been detained in El Palo, Málaga, with relation to a number of acts of vandalism in the area.

A local resident alerted the Local Police to the activities of a group of youths, about a dozen in total, who were carrying out acts of vandalism at a playground in calle Quitapenas and at 01:00, six of the youths were detained.

The group had been smashing or removing various pieces of municipal property and had stored them in a nearby shed. They had also put a load of paper into the shed with the intention of setting it on fire.

On Friday, a group of twelve and thirteen year olds were caught smashing park benches and rubbish bins with baseball bats.

Incidents of vandalism in the El Palo area are all too frequent and local residents have been complaining about the lack of police presence or surveillance for some considerable time. They seem to be of the opinion that the local authorities lack the political will to do anything about the situation.

Five of the six youths detained yesterday were minors.
