Helicopter rescue in Nerja

A 62 year old woman was injured after falling whilst on a walking excursion along the Rio Chillar in Nerja.

The woman was part of a group of 15 people enjoying a ramble along the Rio Chillar in Nerja when she became faint, lost her footing and stumbled into a ravine.

The incident took place in the area known as Los Apretaderos, between the Rio Chillar and the Fuente del Esparto. Firemen, Guardia Civil and Protección Civil officers were called to the rescue but, in the end, they had to call for air support due to the ruggedness of the terrain.

The woman was taken by helicopter to the local health centre and, after an initial examination, was then transferred to hospital in Vélez-Málaga.

The woman, a foreigner, suffered chest and neck injuries along with various cuts and bruises.
