A fire occurred at one of the boatyards on El Playazo beach which took firefighters three hours to extinguish.
The fire began at midnight in one of the huts inside the Nerja Varadero, one of two boatyards side by side on El Playazo beach. Inside the hut were oxygen tanks, diving equipment, various computers, kite-surf boards and equipment and materials for effecting repairs.
One of the boats in the yard suffered damage, estimated at around €12,000, and a huge plume of smoke rose in the night sky as a pile of tyres and plastic burned. Firefighters from Nerja and Vélez-Málaga attended the blaze which took three hours to extinguish.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
