Three arrested in Marbella cocaine bust

Three people have been arrested in Marbella in connection with the smuggling of cocaine from Colombia to Spain.

The arrests are part of an ongoing investigation, codenamed ‘Acuala’, which began back in 2006 in Murcia. At that time, one person was arrested after receiving a package of cocaine via the post. Seven more arrests followed.

The latest detainees include the man thought to be the head of the smuggling network in Spain. It was his job to recruit trustworthy individuals and pay them large sums of money just to receive packages of drugs sent via the postal system from Colombia.

During the latest raid, police seized 2.5 kilos of high quality cocaine, marijuana, cash, mobile phones, weapons, computers, tools and chemicals used in the further processing of the cocaine, vehicles and various documents related to drug trafficking.

All of the detainees are of Colombian origin.
