An elderly woman and her son were rescued from their burning home in Torre del Mar yesterday by Local Police officers.
The fire started at around 10:30 yesterday in the house in calle Enmedio, trapping an 86 year old woman inside. The son, who was on the ground floor, heard the screams of his mother and went to her rescue. Unfortunately, he too became trapped.
The Local Police managed to enter through a window from an adjoining apartment and affect a rescue. The woman, her son and two police officers required medical attention for smoke inhalation.
The Fire Brigade managed to extinguish the fire after about an hour. One fireman suffered burns due to falling debris.
The fire is thought to have been caused by a hot-air heater.
