A 36 year old woman in Sevilla was arrested and charged with neglect after she left her three year old child locked in a car while she went for a drink.
Local residents alerted police after noticing the child crying in the back of a car parked in Plaza de los Andes in the Heliópolis district of the city. It was 03:00.
Police spent four hours combing the bars in the area and eventually located the mother who was apparently sufferng from an excessive alcohol intake and was having difficulty maintaining a vertical posture. She told police she was checking on the infant every two hours to make sure he was OK.
Eva María C.O. was duly arrested and charged with neglect. The child is now in the temporary care of an aunt.
