ETA explosives cache

Police in France have discovered an arms cache linked to the three ETA members arrested at a ski resort yesterday, and in it they found a mass of explosives and detonators.

Alberto Machaín Beraza, currently one of the six most wanted ETA members, Aitzol Etxaburu and Andoni Sarasola were arrested yesterday in a joint operation by the Spanish and French authorities. The arms dump was discovered in the town of Ferrières, about 40 kilometres from the border with Spain. It contained 100 kilos of ammonium nitrate and 12 liters of nitromethane.

Ammonium nitrate and nitromethane, along with aluminium powder, are used to create amonitol, a powerful explosive favoured by ETA since the end of the truce.
