First Influenza A fatality in Andalucía

A 39 year old pregnant woman has become the first fatality in Andalucía as a result of complications arising from infection with Influenza A.

The woman, 39 weeks pregnant, was admitted to the Hospital de Valme in Sevilla on Sunday August 16th suffering from high fever, a cough and chest pains.

As her condition worsened, it was decided to perform a Caesarean section and this took place on Wednesday. The baby is apparently in good health.

The victim, a Moroccan national, was a resident of Alcalá de Guadaíra where she lived with her husband and children. Two of the children had earlier been diagnosed with Influenza A but had not required hospitalisation.
