Maro watchtower renovation

The Maro watchtower is now covered in scaffolding as the Ministry of Environment begins an ambitious project to renovate a number of these historic buildings.

The old watchtowers can be seen all along the coast, some in good condition, others almost a pile of ruins. The Ministry plans to renovate seven of the towers along the Málaga coast, two of them in Nerja, at a cost of €907,889.

The renovation work involves replacing like with like, importing historically authentic materials from other sites. The project is scheduled to take 15 months to complete. The other tower in Nerja scheduled for renovation is La Caleta.
