Torrox reduces budget for 2010

Torrox Council is finalising its budget for 2010 and it will see a reduction of around 25%, mostly as a result of a sharp fall in income from property business.

The budget is expected to be around €17 million whereas last time it was €22.6 million. Investment is to be reduced to a minimum, around €4million, although projects already in progress, such as the new theatre in La Rabitilla and the municipal swimming pool, will have funds available for their completion.

The new theatre is expected to be ready by next summer after the builders were granted a one year extension and alterations to the project amounting to an extra €800,000 were approved.

The swimming pool project requires additional funding of €541,000 to enable its completion.

The Council will also be holding various meetings with local neighbourhoods under its new system of Participatory Budgeting whereby 25% of the budget will decided after consultation with residents of the municipality.
