Joaquín Herrera sports pavilion could be ready by the summer

After more than three years of construction, the covered sports pavilion at the Joaquín Herrera college could now be finished by the summer. If there are no more ‘technical’ delays, of course.

The initial part of the project was financed jointly by the Council and the Junta de Andalucia at a cost of €880,000, but further work was hampered by various technical problems and lack of funds, causing numerous complaints.

The Council has now received funding of €135,000 to resurface the area and build the enclosure, although the walls will not now reach the roof which means it will actually be a half-covered pavilion.

In theory, at least, the completion deadline is three months which, barring further delays and problems, should see the building ready for the summer.

The Councillor for Sports, Andrés Márquez, apologised to parents and teachers for the delays in completing the pavilion which he said were due to technical problems and lack of funds.
