The Junta de Andalucia has decided to postpone both the new tax on plastic bags for single use and the new tax for water until May 1st 2011.
Organisations such as the Confederation of Andalucian Businesses (CEA) had suggested a six month moratorium on the new tax. The Junta says the postponement is to help businesses during the sales period.
Andalucia is one of the few regions aiming to curb the use of plastic bags by means of introducing a revenue earning tax.
The new water tax proposed under the Ley de Aguas has also been postponed until May 1st 2011. This postponement was requested by the Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FAMP).
