A man of North African origin was arrested in Fuengirola for allegedly trying to set fire to a homeless man who was sleeping on the streets of the town.
The incident occurred last Wednesday morning at 06:15. A National Police patrol happened to be passing and heard a commotion which then led to the arrest of the suspect.
According to the preliminary investigation, the suspect went looking for the homeless man and then set fire to the plastic covering he was using as a shelter to keep warm. The heat woke the victim before he suffered any injury but then the suspect brandished a knife to try and intimidate his victim.
Investigators are trying to determine the motive for the attack. One theory is that the two people knew each other had clashed at some earlier stage.
