According to an announcement made during the Tobacco Industry Feria in Llobregat, Barcelona, on Sunday, the consumption of tobacco has declined by 30% during the first three months of 2011.
It was also predicted that the demand for tobacco products would increase again in the future, particularly for products with no additives.
According to the organisation, 27% of Spaniards over the age of 16 years are smokers and tobacco generates €8,000 million in Spain. There are 16,000 tobacconists, 20,000 people involved in growing tobacco and Spain is the third largest grower in the EU, generating some 48,000 jobs in the industry.
