First Axarquia PGOU’s approved

The messy situation surrounding urban development in the Axarquia is gradually being sorted but, although the Junta de Andalucia pledged that all municipalities in the district would have their PGOU’s (General Plans) approved before the May elections, only two have so far achieved this status.

One of the major problems facing the municipalities is the legalisation of an estimated 20,000 illegal homes in the Axarquia district.

Iznate and Alfarnate are the first two municipalities to have their PGOU’s unanimously approved following collaboration between the regional, provincial and municipal authorities.

The PGOU for Iznate anticipates an increase in developable land of 56,807 square metres (40%), allowing for the construction of 221 homes of which 30% will be protected. The plan also anticipates a population increase of 530 persons (55%). The current population is 953 persons.

The PGOU for Alfarnate, the predicted increase in land available for development is 98,783 square metres (35.4%) and the population increase is estimated at 2,156 persons.
