For the first time, a prisoner in Málaga is due to be released during the Day of the Cross celebrations in Coín, an indulgence usually reserved for Semana Santa.
The prisoner release is through the efforts of the Hermandad del Cristo del Perdón y de la Veracruz, the oldest brotherhood in the municipality, and has been approved by the Government.
The prisoner, a native of Málaga, is married and has children and is serving a sentence in an open environment. He will be participating in the procession on May 3rd.
The local brotherhood has been working for four years on the project to have a prisoner released for the Day of the Cross rather than, as happens in other municipalities, during Semana Santa.
