One person died and another was injured as a result of shots fired by the owner of a tobacconist in the town of Sisante, Cuenca. The victims were fleeing after committing a robbery at the place.
At around 05:15, the owner of the tobacconist, and also owner of a local bar, heard the alarm go off and went to investigate, grabbing a shotgun on the way. He saw three men fleeing the scene and opened fire, killing one and injuring another.
It was the fourth occasion in recent months that thieves had targeted his business and the second time within a fortnight. The owner has been detained by the Guardia Civil.
The thieves arrived at the Health Centre in La Roda, Albacete, and medical staff notified the Guardia Civil. The wounded man is now in the Hospital General Universitario in Albacete and the police are searching for the third robber.
