Three interceptions off the Andalucian coast

The Marine Rescue Service intercepted three small boats off the Andalucian coast during Wednesday, the passengers including children, babies and a number of pregnant women.

Sixty-one immigrants were rescued from their small boat which was drifting near Cabo Tres Forcas in Moroccan territorial waters. One of the women on board was in an advanced state of pregnancy and required medical attention. A helicopter was placed on standby in case an emergency evacuation was needed.

A second boat was intercepted about 13 miles northeast of Isla de Alborán. Amongst the 42 passengers on this boat were six women, three of them pregnant, three children and a baby.

A third boat was intercepted 14 miles south of Faro Sabinar on the Roquetas de Mar coast in Almeria. The passengers were seven North African adult males, all in good health.
