44,000 tons of olive oil going into storage

Technicians from the Junta de Andalucia have begun to seal deposits of virgin olive oil held by mills who have asked for financial aid from public funds for the private storage of oil in an effort to force the market price to rise.

In Andalucia, 112 producers have so far been approved for the private storage of olive oil. The Ministry of Agriculture will check the quantities, analayse the quality and then seal the storage deposits.

Around 44,000 tons of olive oil is being taken off the market in an attempt to manipulate the price in an upward direction.
