School forced to scrap ‘bring your own loo roll’ scheme

The directors of the CEIP Manuel Siurot school in La Palma del Condado, Huelva, have been forced to backtrack after their circular requesting pupils to provide €5 for photocopying expenses and one toilet roll at the beginning of each month met with numerous protests.

The directors sent out a circular to parents after approving the measure at a meeting with representatives of parents from the school but now admits that the decision to request the assistance of parents in contributing towards extra expenditure was wrong as it is a public school and they are not allowed to do so.

An apology is being issued and arrangements are being made to refund contributions already made.
