It is not only fruit, veg and machinery disappearing from local farms on a regular basis. Thieves have reportedly stolen 100 beehives from locations in Torrox and Frigiliana.
The hives, valued at €12,000, were taken at the weekend. The hives were not visible from the road and are fairly well hidden, which leads to the conclusion that the thieves know the area well.
Beekeeping has become more popular in Málaga province in recent years and two years qago the first Honey Museum was inaugurated in Los Montes.
