The Catalan police have arrested a couple on suspicion of involvement in the death earlier this week of an eleven month old baby.
The detainees are the baby’s mother, 25 year old Tamara RD, and her current partner, 22 year old Lucas SG. The woman also has a four year old child by a previous partner.
On Tuesday April 10th, the baby was admitted to hospital with critical injuries and underwent emergency surgery. Unfortunately, the baby did not overcome the injuries and died.
The medical staff were not convinced by the assertion of the parents that the injuries to the child were the result of an accident and applying standard protocols for such situations, alerted the police.
Lucas SG was arrested on Wednesday and the mother, Tamara RD, was detained on Friday. They are charged with intentional homicide.
Tamara’s other child, aged four, has been taken into temporary care by the DGAIA and is expected to be placed with relatives. Neither of the accused, who live in Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona, have prior criminal records and there is also no prior record of injuries to either child.
