As from June, travel on the toll roads in Portugal will be made much easier for those travelling from Spain with the introduction of a compatible system for the payment of tolls.
In the first three months since the introduction of tolls on motorways in Portugal, traffic from Spain on these roads has fallen by 56%. To tackle the problem, the Portuguese authorities are making the system compatible with the Spanish system so that toll cards, Spanish bank cards etc will work throughout the network.
