Vélez-Málaga Council has announced that it will beep the three tram units, originally costing €2.6 million each, until the end of the year in case the Junta de Andalucia changes its mind about subsidising the system.
At the end of the year, if no financial aid is forthcoming, the trams will be sold so that they do not deteriorate and lose value due to non-use.
Should the tram subsequently be put back into operation, new and more modern units would be purchased.
