A British resident of Nerja has been arrested after a motoring incident in which he was travelling on the wrong side, hit a Councillor who was riding on her moped and then fled the scene.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon at 15:00 on the N-340 near Maro. The Councillor for Employment and Social Welfare, Encarnación Moreno, was riding her moped on the N-340 to Maro when she was confronted by a car travelling on the wrong side of the road.
She tried to avoid the rogue vehicle but failed and was struck by it. The driver failed to stop and fled towards Nerja.
Fortunately for her, but unfortunately for the driver, two National Policemen on holiday in Nerja witnessed the incident and followed him to his home in calle Ubeda. They then waited for the Local Police to arrive.
The Local Police conducted a breathaliser test on the driver which turned out to be positive.
The Councillor was taken to the Hospital Comarcal in Vélez-Málaga where she was treated for various cuts and bruises.
