The Gran Regata is starting in Cádiz and there is tons of rubbish on the streets as a result of the indefinite strike by rubbish collectors, people obviously not heeding the official request not to put rubbish bags out and spoil the image of the town.
The dispute relates to the non-payment of a pay increase expected under the collective agreement and the failure to incorporate 8 casual workers.
The unions apparently proposed giving up part of the salary increase but the concessionaire, Soufi Cointer, did not accept the offer.
