A man and his three year old son are in the ICU at the Hospital de Vall d’ Hebrón in Barcelona after being shot several times, although their injuries are not said to be life-threatening.
The incident happened at around 19:30 near Lloret de Mar. The man was travelling in a car with his pregnant wife and three year old son when a motorcycle apparently pulled alongside and the occupants fired several shots into the car.
Although the man and his son were hit several times in the body, the injuries are not life-threatening.
The man, of Italian origin, works in the estate agency business and his wife, who was not injured in the attack, works in a supermarket. They were on their way home at the time of the attack.
A number of hypotheses are being considered as the investigation progresses, including the possibility of a settling of scores. Initial indications are that the gunmen knew exactly who to shoot at, which could mean that they were either hired to do the shooting or they themselves knew the victim.
After carrying out the shooting, the gunmen abandoned the motorcycle and fled in a car.
