The socialist Mayor of Ourense, Francisco Rodríguez, was arrested this morning and taken to Pontevedra to face charges of influence peddling, concealment of assets and money laundering.
Also detained was an official from the contracts department of the Town Hall in the town of Santiago. In a parallel operation, police also raided the headquarters of the Confederación Hidrográfica Miño-Sil.
The deputy Mayor, nationalist Isabel Pérez, has taken over as leader of the Ourense government.
