New tax for civil weddings for non-residents

As from 2013, non-residents choosing to get married in a civil ceremony in Nerja will have to go through the Town Hall and will be subject to a new tax of €150.00. This applies to couples where neither party has been registered on the Nerja census (padrón) for at least four years.

Other municipalities, such as Vélez-Málaga, also charge for civil weddings, between €100 and €150, dependant upon whether the city officials have to travel outside the Town Hall to officiate.

Nerja is a popular marriage destination for foreign couples.
