In the first few hours after the introduction of new, reduced prices and discounts, RENFE sold 76,500 tickets for the AVE high-speed trains, representing a 115% increase over the same day last year.
The general ticket prices have been reduced by 11% and there are discounts of between 30% and 70% as well as special multiple ticket offers and various passes such as Seniors, Youth and Multiple Journey. Traffic to the RENFE website was treble the normal volume for a Friday.
RENFE is trying to promote the use of the AVE high-speed trains, particularly amongst commuters and young people.
