Train fares to go up by 1.85%

The cost of train tickets for the commuter trains, middle-distance, Avant and Feve will rise by an average of 1.85% as from January 2015, according to the rail network operator RENFE.

Today, Thursday, is a twenty-four hour strike by RENFE workers belonging to the CGT union in protest at plans to divide the rail network into four separate companies.

A week of rail strikes and more planned for November

Forty-three trains axed in Andalucia

The Central Government has already initiated the cuts in unprofitable RENFE rail routes as per the report from Imeco commissioned by the Ministry of Development. In Andalucia, a total of 43 trains will be cut from various routes.

AVE price reduction appears to have been a success

In the first few hours after the introduction of new, reduced prices and discounts, RENFE sold 76,500 tickets for the AVE high-speed trains, representing a 115% increase over the same day last year.

Another RENFE rail strike on Monday

RENFE workers have called another strike for tomorrow, Monday, in protest at plans by the rail network operator to split the organisation into four separate companies. Already cancelled are 302 AVE, long and middle distance trains and local trains. Local trains, Cercanias, are expected to run at around 50% of normal. 

RENFE cancels 267 trains

RENFE, the rail network operator, has cancelled 267 high-speed, long and middle distance trains for Friday as a result of the strike called by unions in protest at the liberalisation of the sector, so if you are travelling on Friday, check that your train is actually scheduled to run.
